The Lodestone Leash uses a patented magnetic connection between the leash and your quick-release belt. During normal paddleboarding — including falls, swims, and board recovery — the magnetic hold is strong enough to keep the leash attached as intended. But if your leash becomes entrapped on a submerged rock, branch, or other hazard and an entrapment load is applied, that same magnetic connection releases instantly and automatically. You don’t need to pull a handle, press a button, or think about it. The physics of the situation trigger the release for you.
No. The Lodestone Leash is engineered so that the forces generated by a normal fall, swim, or board recovery do not exceed the release threshold. The release only occurs when an entrapment load — the sustained, directional force created when a current holds you against a fixed object — is applied. With a certified release force variability of just 1%, the release threshold is consistent and predictable across every unit. This is why we test to Grade 3 whitewater standards.
Leash entrapment happens when a standard paddleboard leash catches on a fixed underwater object — a rock, submerged tree, bridge pier, or weir — while the paddler is in moving water. The current continues to push the paddler downstream, but the leash holds them in place. This creates a pinning force that can be impossible to overcome manually, even for a strong swimmer. It is a recognised cause of drowning in river paddlesport. A Lodestone Leash eliminates this risk by releasing automatically the moment an entrapment load is detected
The Lodestone Leash is designed to attach to most standard manual quick-release (QR) belt systems used in paddlesport. If you already own a QR belt, there’s a good chance the leash-only option (£59.95) will work with it. If you’re unsure about compatibility, email us at hello@lodestoneleashes.com with your belt make and model and we’ll confirm before you order. Alternatively, our bundle options (£69.95 and £79.95) include a tested, compatible belt so you have everything you need in one package.
If you already own a manual quick-release belt and it’s compatible with the Lodestone Leash, the leash-only option at £59.95 gives you the automatic release upgrade without replacing equipment you already trust. If you’re setting up a complete system from scratch, or if you want the peace of mind of a fully tested, matched combination, the bundles are the cleaner option. The HF Synergy Bundle (£79.95) is our most complete safety setup and the one we recommend if you’re doing any serious river paddling. The Manual QR Bundle (£69.95) is a solid complete system at a slightly lower price point.
UK delivery is free on all orders, typically arriving within 3-5 business days via Royal Mail. Mainland Europe: £4.95, 7-14 business days. USA and Canada: £9.95, 10-21 business days. Yes. If you’re not satisfied with your order, contact us within 30 days of delivery and we’ll arrange a return. Products must be unused and in their original packaging. Refunds are processed within 5-7 business days of us receiving the return. Return postage costs are the customer’s responsibility unless the product arrived damaged or incorrect. The Lodestone Leash uses a magnetic connection mechanism. People with pacemakers, implanted defibrillators, or other magnetically sensitive medical devices should consult their cardiologist or medical specialist before using this product. As a general precaution, we recommend keeping any magnetic device at least 15cm from an implanted device. If you’re in any doubt, please seek medical advice before purchasing. Your safety is the reason this product exists — please don’t take risks with it.
Fitting takes under a minute: thread the leash connector through your QR belt’s leash ring and attach it to your magnetic connector point. The magnetic connection should click firmly into place. For maintenance: rinse the leash in fresh water after every saltwater session. Check the magnetic connector for debris before each use — sand or grit can reduce performance if not cleared. Do not store the leash coiled tightly for extended periods. The leash requires no lubrication or specialist maintenance.
